Smart Control Panels
Device Control in your Home or Office
Fill the tub from your bedside. Set
the conference room lights to "presentation" mode. Turn on
music throughout the house. Or just certain rooms. All with the
press of a button.
The Extron Smart Control Panels were
designed to be installed in a standard electrical switch box and to
integrate with a "smart" central controller. Each
button controls one preset function.
This product was designed and
developed from the ground up. The key design elements of
the product include:
- Two different models - 8-button
and 12-button
- Buttons which are custom
laser-etched per installation
- Field-swappable buttons
- 4 different button sizes to let
customers decide how they want to configure the button layout
A sampling of some of the
elements we designed or assisted with:
- Elastomeric switch membrane
- Button design
- Button retainer
- Switch box
- Electronic PCB support and
retention
- Complete looks-like, works-like,
feels-like prototype
- Manufacturing database and
drawings
The biggest design challenge on this
project was coming up with a button retention system that could be
modified during installation. Some clients might want only two large
buttons per panel while others may want all eight or twelve buttons.
The solution was a button cage that could be easily clipped with a
pair of wire snips and buttons that could fit around the cage cross
members.
