Actic Concept Car
Video Roof and Smart Key
The Nissan concept car project
started with a blank whiteboard and a brainstorm. Nissan wanted to
develop a car that would show that they are at the cutting edge of
technology. The resulting video roof and smart key were big hits at
the Detroit Auto Show at the end of the project.
This project created an amazing one-of-a-kind car prototype that showcased some
amazing technology and accomplished exactly what the client
wanted.
Basically, the car had what looked
like a typical translucent glass sunroof running the length of the
car. When the keyfob was placed in the dash, the music would turn
on, the car could be started, and the sunroof magically turned into
video screens showing whatever the user pre-decided. Imagine driving
along on a rainy day and having a sunny sky with palm trees going by
above your head. Or leaves that slowly floated down on the roof when
the car was stopped and then "blown away" when it was
driven off.
A sampling of some of the
elements we designed or assisted with:
- Initial concept brainstorm
- Technology research
- Keyfob CAD database
- Functional keyfob illumination
- Functional keyfob buttons
- Keyfob connectorization
- Video screen research
- Video roof CAD database
- Roof video component layout
- Video roof installation
- In-car video interface
